I remember when I was a kid they allowed children to start kindergarten at age 4. Now days it seems that it’s 5. The frustrating part is my son missed the deadline by only a couple of weeks. We live in WA state but close to ID, anyone know the laws of these states or a way around this so we can get our son into school then? Please any input it great!

All states now have a voluntary K 4. Most all day cares offer the K4 program when I live. Call one and ask.

I would just call a school and ask. But, if you want him to go at age 4, I’m guessing they will want to test him. Remember, it’s not all about what they know- it’s the social aspect too and being able to sit thru kindergarten all day.
Keep him at home another year. I have a son with an August birthday, and the cut-off here is Sept. 1st. I sent him to kindergarten when he was barely 5 years old, and have regretted it ever since. He is so much younger than his classmates.
Most states have a cut-off date of Sept. 1st. Kids need to be 5 by Sept. 1st. Many, many kids with summer birthdays are held back a year, especially boys, since their skills are usually far behind the girls.
