Question by brainless_blonde_girl: Whats some stuff you can do with kindergarten children at a day camp?
Hey everybody, I am doing a vacation bible school camp 2 weeks from now, and I am in charge with a group of kindergarten-aged children. I need some help thinking of simple songs they can sing along with, or little games they can play or something. Any other tips you have would be appreciated also. Thank you so much! ☺
P.S~I knowthis isnt preschool, but i didnt know what else to choose. Thank you for your patience for my laziness. ☻

GAME 1 (items needed: at least hulahoop)
    TANGLED
have the kids stand in a circle and hold hands. place the hoop between 2 kids so the hoop rests on their hands while holding. the kids must climb through the hoop with their entire body without letting go. the hoop needs to make it around the circle. you can make it more fun by starting 1 hoop at one side of the circle and another hoop at the other side. teaches the kids cooperation.

GAME 2 (tems needed 4 nerf balls)
    MANIC HOT POTATOE
divide the kids into 2 groups. each group sits in a circle. start 2 balls in each group, passing around like hot potatoe. except when the child drops the ball they aren’t out, the go to the other group. the game continues until the kids get tired of it. you can add as many balls as you like also.

    GAME 3 (no supplies needed)
    AMEBA
gather kids in a group. tell them that they have to listen closely to your hand claps. they have to self divide into however many claps they hear if they hear 4 claps, they need to get together in groups of 4. anyone odd man out comes and stands by you. then clap again and that child can re-enter. i always used this game to divide up into teams. eventually you can do 2 claps and they will self divide into 2 teams and no one has to pick sides.

GAME 4 (supplies: pitchers of water)
    SPLISH, SPLISH, SPLASH
kids sit in a circle and play duck, duck, goose. but instead of thumping someone on the head they do a splish of water on each and a splash on the chosen one.

Think back on your Sunday School days. I bet there were lots of songs you liked to sing. The B-I-B-L-E-, Do Lord, This Little Light of Mine, etc.

Kindergarteners love games and are just getting good at following rules and playing group games, but you’ll have to be patient. There’s always Red Light, Green Light; What Time is it Mr. Fox?; Doggie, Where’s Your Bone?; Red Rover; Simon Says.

Cooperative Games are always good. http://www.learning-for-life.org/exploring/resources/99-720/x08.pdf

Just google and you’ll find tons of game ideas!

Greg & Steve CD’s are great

Get their attention w/ a bell or a rainstick or a simple song or clapping
    Routines are VERY important
Keep it simple- not to much choice
Alternate between sitting and active activities
Make transitions ( time in between activities) quick and easy
Get their attention by saying if you can hear clap your hands, touch your nose, rub your tummy etc…. works like a charm

Preschoolers love both bubbles and painting so this is one way to combine them into one activity. Tempera or acrylic paint will both work well for this activity.

    Tools
    yogurt container
    straw

    Supply Quantity Size
    dish detergent
    white construction paper 1 sheet 9″ x 12″
    green acrylic paint
    purple acrylic paint
    red acrylic paint
    warm water

    Step By Step Instructions

    1. Line up the small yogurt containers you will be using on your work surface. You need one container for each color.
    2. Squeeze equal amounts of paint and dish soap into each container.
    3. Pour a little splash of water into each container. You don’t want to add a lot, the paint will be too watery and the bubbles won’t stay formed long enough for you to paint with them.
    4. Using the straw, stir one of the colors up completely with the soap and the water. Blow into the straw until you have bubbles coming up over the edge of the container. Remove the straw quickly and press the paper to the bubbles. You can repeat a few times before the bubbles begin to pop too quickly for you to use them. It looks good when you overlap the bubbles and the colors. Repeat this process with the other colors you have chosen to use.
    5. Let the paint dry completely before displaying.
